Journal Entry 1 by goatgrrl from New Westminster, British Columbia Canada on Thursday, April 08, 2004
I picked this book up at the Sally Anne, attracted by the promise of humour (I'm in the mood). Will be reading it this week, then probably releasing in the wild (this copy is already a little beat up ...).

Journal Entry 2 by goatgrrl from New Westminster, British Columbia Canada on Tuesday, October 02, 2007
Well, I certainly wouldn't describe this novel as "terribly funny" (as the quote on the front cover does). The book begins with the death, in childbirth, of boisterous, twenty-something Holly Fox, and the action then revolves around who will look after Holly's new baby, Faith. Her physician husband Andrew is (oddly) disqualified for being "too busy" (and it's the '90s, not the '30s!), so Faith is sent to Yorkshire to live with her eccentric paternal uncle and his bizarre wife, Jocasta. The other quirky characters include Holly's bereaved mother, Thomasina, the 70-something retired general who is her secret lover, and Faith's paternal grandparents, Toots and Dolly, who are the most loveable of the lot. Faith Fox is cleverly written, but the story just loped along to an anti-climactic finish that left me wondering "what was that about?".
