The Late Show

So it is that she finds herself working a robbery, and assault, and a multiple homicide, all in a single shift. While her partner just wants to pass these cases on to the specialists on day shift, Ballard is determined to solve each of these crimes. And she does, but not without cost. Along the way, she accidentally spooks a suspect in a Federal investigation, gets deeply involved in a murder investigation that threatens to completely derail her career, and finds herself abducted by a seriously evil suspect.
There is a lot going on in this book, and it is a testament to Connelly's writing that it isn't at all confusing to read. Each of the story lines is clear and the reader is never left wondering who anyone is or how they connect to the overall story. And while Ballard is very much her own character, fans of Harry Bosch are going to find much about her to like.
