One of my favourite new-to me-authors. Although Peter May has been around for years and written many novels I had never picked up one of his books before until about a month ago. This is now my second book by this author and is a stand alone novel.
The story is set in the Outer Hebrides in Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris. A man is washed ashore with no memory of who he is or how he got there but has a gut feeling and an overwhelming sense of guilt that something terrible has happened and that it is all down to him. The story is told by three different characters, a teenage girl named Karen Fleming, a detective sergeant George Gunn (told in the third person) and the main man with no memory, that all eventually link together. I also learned a lot about honey bees that I didn't know before. Unputdownable.
