"Jordan returns from California to Utah to visit his mother in jail. As a teenager he was expelled from his family and religious community, a secretive Mormon offshoot sect. Now his father has been found shot dead in front of his computer, and one of his many wives - Jordan's mother - is accused of the crime.
Over a century earlier, Ann Eliza Young, the nineteenth wife of Brigham Young, Prophet and Leader of the Mormon Church, tells the sensational story of how her own parents were drawn into plural marriage, and how she herself battled for her freedom and escaped her powerful husband, to lead a crusade to end polygamy in the United States."

This book is about two 19th wives - Ann Eliza Young who was married to Brigham Young, one of the founders of the Mormon church and in modern times BeckyLyn Scott who is accused of murdering her husband.
I really enjoyed this book, the history was fascinating and made me want to know more.

A fascinating look at the history of the Latter Day Saints though the way women and children were treated and the fact that no-one seemed to worry about interbreeding made my blood boil. I also find some of it hard to believe, especially how they grew to be such a big group and to own so much property (or rather the men did) and get away with polygamy for as long as they did when it was illegal. Why didn't the government clamp down sooner?
