I loved "Sahara Man" written many years earlier by the same author but as he warned me himself, this would be a harder read, I was warned! But was undeterred, as I spent 5 weeks in the south of Algeria, in Djanet, early 2007. So I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of what had been going on. I expect I will go on to read his third book... This explains in detail that the kidnapping of 30 tourists that came to international attention is likely to have been arranged in cohoots with the Americans, who had/have dark ulterior motives, and it has all been fuelled by the excuse of the "Global War on Terror" and the theory dreamt up that extremists from the Middle East were coming into Europe via the Sahara over a banana-shaped journey... The subject is complex. His writing style is thankfully easy to read, bar the overuse of acronyms. I'd be happy to pass this on should I find someone else interested in what happened and why.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I gave this to the guitarist who had performed in my concert series the night before. He plays among other things desert Blues and knows Morocco well. He told me the next day that he had already got stuck in as he missed a train home so had plenty of time to wait for the next one. Perhaps we should also be looking out for the author's subsequent book.
