From the cover -
TUPPERWARE LADIES, EIGHTIES PEOPLE, AND LEISURE CONCEPT SALESMEN BEWARE: DAVE BARRY IS ON THE LOOSE AND NO ONE IS SAFE!
What Dave Barry did for American history in Dave Barry Slept Here and for getting older in Dave Barry Turns Forty, he does for... EVERYTHING ELSE IN AMERICA! The rapacious consumer of overpriced real estate, He Man action figures, and homemade beer sounds off on:
Gambling: "Off-Track Betting parlors are the kinds of places where you never see signs that say, 'Thank You for Not Smoking.' The best you could hope for is, 'Thank You for Not Spitting Pieces of Your Cigar on My Neck.'"
The Big Apple: "New York has more commissioners than Des Moines, Iowa, has residents, including the Commissioner for Making Sure the Sidewalks Are Always Blocked by Steaming Fetid Mounds Of Garbage the Size of Appalachian Foothills, and, of course, the Commissioner for Bicycle Messengers Bearng Down on You at Warp Speed with Mohawk Haircuts and Pupils Smaller than Purely Theoretical Particles."
Beer Commercials: "You never found out why these men spend so much time shaking hands. Maybe shaking hands is just their simple straightforward burly masculine American patriotic way of saying to each other: 'Floyd, I am truly sorry I drank all that beer last night and went to the bathroom in your glove compartment.'"

"The good news: he's as funny as ever. The bad news: the book is only 287 pages."

Hard to believe this is over 20 years old. Shades of the 80s! Revisiting politics and finance shows how little things have changed in all this time. Humor was rather topical for back then - Iran Contra hearings, Oliver North. Some political names still around - Bush (although probably the father, not the son), Biden, and some from history - Carter, Nixon, Reagan, and Gore.

A pleasant, not great read. Off soon to a new reader (I hope).

Humorist, Dave Barry writes about the 80’s. Very nonsensical.
Out of date,
