The Browns first meet Paddington on a railway station - Paddington was the name of the station. He had travelled all the way from Peru with only a jar of marmalade, a suitcase and his hat.

The Browns soon found, as countless families have since found, that Paddington was a very unusual bear. Things keep happening to him. Even quite ordinary things like having a bath, travelling on the underground or going to the seaside turn out to be very un-ordinary for Paddington.
