Thanks once again Lamilla for this RABCK!
At first I was afraid this book would be too academic or difficult for me, because I'm not a native English speaker and my English is not that great. But it turned out it was a quite interesting read and not that difficult after all. I learned many interesting facts about English language, plenty of new words and phrases and in general I had a good time reading it. I liked the "story-telling" method of chosing 100 words to "narrate" the history of English language and the simple - but I believe not simplistic- writting style of the author.
I'm obviously just a random reader, so I can't judge if eveything is accurate from a scientific point of view, but I found the book quite fascinating. That said, I admit that I found the last few chapters dealing mostly with technology and internet-era words a bit tiring and a bit repetitive and not as informative as the previous chapters, maybe because I read the book in 2-3 afternoons while it could better be enjoyed reading it in smaller slots. Furthermore, a few cultural references were naturaly lost on me. I can't ommit to mention that coming from Greece I was a bit disappointed to see that while often the author would spend a few lines to explain in detail the origins of some words coming from other languages, he would often just mention that so and so word comes from Latin and Greek without explaining which one from or analyzing further. And according to my knowledge, some Greek words were given a wrong origin or not so accurate explanation. But this is minor stuff and possibly my national ego speaking here.
All in all, a very decent book if you are interested on the subject matter or you simply like to delve in varied themes on your readings.

I am the decoy, you are the winner, Alia_Rus! :-) Thanks for this book, seems interesting. I wonder if the author knows most English words have French origin... :-D
