Journal Entry 1 by kangaroo from Barnet, Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, April 02, 2004
This, as the name suggests, is connected with the Children's Fiction Virtual Book Box. I couldn't bear the thought of not knowing a) where the bookbox had got to, and c) what people had chosen to take out and to put in. Just call me Miss Nosy Parker. So. After some thought, I think that the easiest way of doing this is that when people ask you for a book from the book box, you make a journal entry in this book saying that you have sent it to them. That way we can see which books have been in, and the current list of books is not revealed to anybody save those reading the PMs. Feel free to put in more information, eg why did you choose a particular book, but this isn't compulsory so don't worry too much about it. Any questions - PM Kangaroo. List of participants: 1. Adrienne10 2. Chelseagirl 3. kat-louise 4. loopy1 5. Camis 6. CatieB 7. tiggsybabes - skipped, maybe later? 8. wistfuldragon 9. Moondreamer (& daughters) 10. Elestr <-- here! 11. purple-pixie 12. weebly-boy 13. Back to Kangaroo [edit - 24th Sept - Ruthwater is in too, after weebly-boy & before kangaroo]

I have asked Adrienne10 for The Giving Tree. I will pass the box on tonight, once I've had the chance to check the author of the book I am offering! (I am assuming we register the book just before sending, that way we avoid forgetting to keep hold of it!) Is there anything in the rules against adding more books than you take out? I'm assuming that there won't be a problem as it won't increase the next person's postage *g*, but let me know if there is. In case anyone is wondering about the big time gap - my pm to the next person went on walkabout in ths system somewhere, and I didn't check for a month! Come to think of it maybe I'd better pm Adrienne10 about the book I asked her for again, as that hasn't arrived either, so maybe the e-mail didn't (if you see what I mean!) Ooh this is fun! I am sending five books to Moondreamer and family, being: The Beast Master - Andre Norton The Mystery of Tally-Ho Cottage - Enid Blyton Second Form at St Clare's - Enid Blyton 3-in-1 animal stories (The Children at Green Meadows, Six Cousins at Mistletoe Farm, More Adventures on Willow Farm) - Enid Blyton Cart & Cwidder - Diana Wynne Jones Some of these are fragile, being decades old and having had at least four readers - me and my sister, and two of the Dragonets. But they are still in a good enough state to be enjoyed one more time.

Apologies for delay on this; something odd happened to first notification. With the second, for some reason I couldn't understand what to do...! May we call it end of term fever, please? Anyway, it now seems perfectly obvious, so very shortly we shall make our substitutions. Thanks for organising, katie kangaroo!

This is at last moving onwards - forwarded to Elestr (Rissy's new screen-name). We (daughters and I) have taken out no less than 7, so I have said to Elestr that if she doessn't like our replacements, we'll either find her some others or put some of those we took out back in. Older daughter (who journals under my screen-name as JJJ) is an Enid Blyton fan, so has asked for 'The Mystery of Tally-Ho Cottage', 'Second Form at St.Clare's' and 'The Children at Green Meadows' etc. Younger daughter, who is considering journalling (under my screen-name) as Howling Dragon, has chosen: Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper A Castle of Bone by Penelope Farmer The Beast Master by Andre Norton The titles intrigued her - the only author we've heard of is Andre Norton. I must say, the titles intrigued me too! Dianna Wynne Jones has been recommended to me, so I'd like Cart and Cwidder please (just to check out before passing on to the children, you understand!) Thanks, everyone. A brief update 17th February - Elestr e-mailed me a while ago that there was nothing in the 'box' that was suitable; it's only recently occurred to me to check whether she'd still sent it on - she hadn't, so I forwarded it to purple-pixie last night.

Not bad, under a year to go round everybody. I have asked Moondreamer for The Prisoner of Zenda and The Last Polar Bears, Camis for Juggling Lessons, Wistfuldragon for Mrs Pepperpot in the Magic Wood, and Weebly for The Dragon Who Couldn't Breathe Fire. I feel a bit greedy, but I have sent out 10 books as part of this to 5 people, so it evens out really! Thank you so much for playing, everybody, and I really hope you all found books that you enjoyed through it.
