Ah siblings, you can't live with them, you can't kill them. Melody, Beatrice, Jack and Leo Plumb, have been all waiting to get their share of the nest. A tidy sum, that their late father put in trust, that surprising has grown substantially from what initially was going to leave them with about $100,000 each to well over a million each. However Leo, a perpetual man-child driven by his id, has put all that into jeopardy. He picks up a young server at a wedding, telling this would be singer/waitress about his connections to the music industry. He has none, it's just another lie falling from his silver tongued mouth. However this time there are serious consequences, and Leo gets into a car accident that leaves the server less one foot. To avoid embarrassment, the Plumb's ice queen mother raids the nest to pay off the server and make it all go away, leaving a much smaller inheritance for each sibling. Melody is in over her head with a bloated mortgage for a house she HAD to have. Jack is secretly borrowing against a beloved beach cottage that he and his husband own to try to save his floundering antiques business. And smart talented Bea, has been unable to write anything for years. Onetime nauseatingly called one of Manhattan's Glitterati, she's barely hanging on at a literary magazine that is struggling just as much a she is.
As annoying and spoiled as the immensely flawed Plumbs are, I couldn't help but root for them, especially Bea. A rollicking read, that zings back and forth from one sibling to another, and readers gets to see and maybe understand why all of them have made such foolish choices.
