"Little Fires Everywhere" arrived in Delphi yesterday. Thank you Lamilla and Icila! There are a couple of other book rays to be read before this, but it won't take long (I hope) before I get into this. It sounds very interesting!
I can see why some people may love this book, but...
I finally finished "Little Fires Everywhere" today and I'm in two minds about it. Did I like it? Did I not? To be honest, I found the book a chore to read till more than 200 pages through. Nothing much happening and nothing too original here and life at Shaker Heights seemed very boring to me. Richardsons' family appear too trite and dull and stereotypical while the "wild" character, Mia, was very cliché too.
Throughout the book the characters and events didn't feel very real to me, but at least after the 200-250th page or so -so after one has read half the novel-, developments start to speed up a bit and things to happen. I found many plot twists very far-fetched and I couldn't shake the feeling that the author was trying hard to make some points and pose some dilemmas, but at least I found my self interested on Mia's past and on where the current developments will lead.
Well, the reader knows where the events will lead from the opening scene of the book, but I thought the author would expand this scene further and wrap up some of the plot elements. This didn't really happen and unless Celeste Ng plans to write a sequel, I thought the end of the book wasn't very satisfactory.
The narration at times felt a bit weird, swifting points of view, getting perspective of one character who then fades on the background, then
getting perspective from another one to soon be forgotten and pass on to someone else till many chapters latter say the first character will make a come back on the scene...
Albeit its unbelievable characters, cliché themes and abrupt end, I would have rate this book much higher and would have enjoy it more, if the whole novel was confined on the second half. As it is now, I think I wouldn't rate it more than a bit over 6 out of 10. Of course the "a bit over" counts in favor of the author : )

well, I finished this book a few days ago and have the same problems as Delphi_reader had...
Did I like it? or not?
I really liked the opening scene which made me hope for more. But it didn't come.
Mrs Richardson was appalling, the whole life in Shaker boring - reminded me a bit of the movie "Stepford Wifes" .
The way Lexie wasn't bothered with using Pearl's name and discredit her this way..
I felt ever so sorry for Izzy - but I am not happy with the ending either..
So - it took me quite a while to finish this book but now I am done and I will pm penelope whether her address is still the same :-)

This has arrived in Switzerland, joining the crowd of things to do at this end of year period. I'll try to get to it as soon as possible, but it will have to wait its turn. Thanks so much for making this available and for sending.
Journal Entry 15 by penelopewanders at Hasliberg, Bern / Berne Switzerland on Sunday, January 13, 2019
I actually picked this up the previous week, but was not in the right mindset to read it. Because it's here as a ring, I felt compelled to give it a second go, and I'm very glad I did. I found this extremely moving, even if sometimes it seemed to spin out a bit too much in too many directions. At times it felt a bit like a Jodi Picoult novel - especially with the whole part about Bebe, and for some reason Mia and Pearl reminded me of some of Judith Ryan Hendricks' characters (think Isabel's Daughter). Not necessarily the tidiest of tales, but very thought-provoking. The dynamics between the various characters were particularly intriguing. A good read.
I have written for the next address, sorry it took me so long to get to it!

This leaves the rather frosty Swiss Alps and heads up to the Netherlands, thanks to a ring. Thanks so much for making this available, and please forgive the delay. May 2019 be a year of wonder and joy, and marvellous stories both on and off the page!
Received today. Thanks for the best wishes and the card in German. It is nice to read some German, I still have the challenge back in my mind to try a novel in German.
The photo's stirred feelings she couldn't quite frame in words, and this, she decided, must mean they were true works of art.
I really loved this book although I also can't frame my feelings in words really.
[Spoilers]
I don't read so many books about families it seems, as it struck me this was so when reading. Well family, it is a book about the relationship between mother and children, as Mia and Bebe are single parents and the Richardsons, although there is a father, he is more or less absent as a character in the story. The one time he is there is when he contemplates he likes Izzy as she is, reminding him of his mother, but then he does not say.
A lot is not said. I think in the end the novel is about keeping secrets, and the consequences of it. Mia keeps Pearls heritage a secret, Moody does not tell his crush on Pearl to her, Mrs Richardson does not tell Izzy what happened in her early days as a baby, Trip does not tell his brother that he wants a better relationship with him and Lexie conceals her pregnancy and abortion. These darker secrets catapult the actions of everyone, without them really recognizing this. I loved the fact that for me no character in this novel was really bland or one dimensional (accept the father that is).

This book arrived safely in Sweden. Thanks for sharing! I´ll try to read it after I finish my current book, so it gets traveling again soon.
I absolutely loved this book!
I loved the way the story was built up, starting with a house set on fire presumably by a rebellious daughter and then slowly revealing all the little and big moments that led up to this event. I liked how the narration changed between different characters but kept progressing along the same timeline. The way how all the characters’ storylines were so intertwined and so many little things happened to lead to this one big fire (well actually, several little fires everywhere, as the title suggest). Such a great book!

Received in today's post. What a pleasant surprise!
Safely received with thanks :)
Aiming to finish it by May 5th.

I am really glad I read this book. I rarely encounter a work of fiction where nobody is right and nobody is wrong. This was mostly for me an exercise of empathy, a short visit to a world where people are allowed to make mistakes and where they actually learn to live with them. There is no right answer and there is no recipe for success. Kindness trumps all. Sure, lots of things felt a bit convoluted, notably the single victim of the toothpick prank. But I had a good spell reading it anyway.
Soon to be shipped off to mcsar.
Thank you for sharing, and wishing you the happiest of birthdays :)

The book arrived in Canada. Thanks for sending. I'll start reading soon and get the bookray going again soon.
I really enjoyed the book. The opening chapter was great, then the book did slow a bit, but the plot caught up and kept my attention. I agree with lamelemon that in this story no one is right and no one is wrong and I really like this about the book. This is one of those stories that will stay with me and keep me thinking. Thanks for sharing the book.
