I picked this one up because I was mesmerized (and still am) by another of his books, Black Fly Season. That one had chilling but well-developed characters, extraordinary plotting, and a new concept to me, forensic entomology . This was good, but it just didn't bring up the goose flesh in quite the same way. On the other hand, I was impressed by the procedural elements , showing Cardinal's partner, Lise Delorme, piecing together the clues that would identify a predatory child abuser.
