Bought this book directly from the author at Pier 21 in Halifax.

This book is written in the style of Terry Fallis (The Best Laid Plans). Because of this, and its Vancouver connection, I was anticipating a great read. Sadly, not so.

For three quarters of the book the protagonist, Nate Mills, leads up to, then tells the story of, his 5 days with the roommate-from-hell, Layne Rhodes. In the last quarter of the book, Nate confesses that his stories about Layne are lies. He sets the record straight, tells the real story, and describes the subsequent anguish his behaviour and lies have caused within himself. Then, at the end of the book, he confesses that the subsequent experiences are also a lie.

The story is adolescent, confusing, and unsatisfying. But I'm still glad I bought the book from the author. There is potential here. Good luck!
