I found this softcover in this Little Free Library in Candia NH while dropping off some books of my own, and I was glad of another release copy.
I enjoyed the 2000 mini-series very much, a hilarious - and sometimes dark - re-telling of a mishmash of fairy tales. A young New York woman, whose mother disappeared when she was a child, and who's been living with her rather scatterbrained and klutzy Dad, finds herself swept through a mirror into a fantasy-world where there are many beautiful things - many of which seem to be trying to kill her... Her father has been caught up in this too, along with Prince Wendell (who's in the body of a dog at present), and there's a half-wolf (a rakish fellow with a mania for food, up to and including grandmothers) who's on their trail and yet seems to have taken a fancy to Virginia. Much hilarity, horror, heartbreak, and heroism ensues, not necessarily in that order.
This novelization includes a section of still photos from the mini-series, and seems to be a pretty faithful narration of the screen version, readable and entertaining - though I think it helps a lot to have seen the performances of the TV actors, especially Scott Cohen as Wolf!
[There's a TV Tropes page on the mini-series with some entertaining tidbits.]
