Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret. He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old history teacher, but he's been alive for centuries. From Elizabethan England to Jazz-Age Paris, from New York to the South Seas, Tom has seen it all. As long as he keeps changing his identity he can stay one step ahead of his past -- and stay alive.
The only thing he must not do is fall in love . . .
I've been a fan of Matt Haig's writing for several years now, and am slowly working through his back catalogue, so when I saw his latest offering in Waterstones it was a must-buy.
The language is gentle, and although the story flits back and forth in time and place it is still quite simple. And yet it's another thought provoking sideways look at discovering your existence, whether you are a dog, a cat, a vampire, or in this case, a human. I really enjoyed this book.
