"Adrian Mole has at last reached physical maturity, but he can't help roaming the pages of his diary like an untamed adolescent. Finally given the heave-ho by Pandora, he seeks solace in the arms of Bianca, a qualified hydraulic engineer masquerading as a waitress. Between his dishwashing job and completing his epic novel, 'Lo! The Flat Hills of My Homeland', Adrian hopes that fame and fortune will not keep him waiting much longer." (amazon.de)

I finished it the other day. It was good but at times Adrian's obstinacy made me want to slap him. He is an idiot!

I'm adding this to The Next English Bookbox.
This book is one of the many that were inside The Next English BookBox.
I'm one of the few persons who actually made it through English classes at school without ever having to read any of the Adrian Mole diaries. Somehow the idea of reading books about a teenager with embarrassing problems didn't seem so appealing when I was a teenager with embarrassing problems myself.
Well, that was years ago... now that I'm old and wise and not a teenager anymore, I decided to give Adrian Mole and his problems a chance, that's why this book is going to stay here with me until I've read it! ;)
[edit March 17, 2005:] Now that I've read the book I can really understand that other reader's comment who said that sometimes they really wanted to slap Adrian Mole for being such an idiot. Not only slap him, but kick him really hard!
While the book is quite funny at times, at other times it just got on my nerves. Having Adrian Mole act as if he still was in his early teens - even though he's supposed to be 24 already - sure gets boring after a while. Or maybe it's just me and I'm already too old for that kind of literature.
