I've read a lot of books. I've covered most genres. I've covered most types of plot and character. But reading the fictional memoirs of an 18th century Buddhist monk in Japan was a new one on me!
I enjoyed the novel and read it quickly. There was something quite warming and calm about it. And learning about this very alien culture was fascinating. So I'm pleased I gave it a chance.
