Its been a while since I read this, but I remember it being pretty amusing. I'm hanging on to my other copy to re-read.

Wasn't quite sure which category to enter this under - Humour, Pets & Animals or Nonfiction!

Update: posted to tom-m on Saturday 3rd April '04.

paperback

Pratchett did the writing, Joliffe the illustrations.

The book is funny, although most readers on the US side of the ocean might have trouble with some of the Briticisms (I think I invented that word, by the way.) The book is, essentially, Pratchett's experiences with his own cats (and some strangers who wandered through his life) couched as an exploration of cats in general. Indeed, there is much in common here with my own experiences, and I am sure with any other cat lover. The section about Schroedinger's Cat, for example, seems to be the best explanantion of the cat phenomenon of disappearing, then showing up somewhere else without traversing the space between.

He also points out that, so far as training a cat goes, it is the cat who does the training. (Think about it, cat owners!)

In the section on cat names, he points out something I had also noticed. Do *not* give a cat a cute name because of the terrible embaressment of standing outside calling it loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear.

I won't go into the section on sex. :-)

Good fun, even if I had to translate some British words and phrases into American. Joliffe's illustrations are a nice compliment to the text.

(I've promised this book to libertine101 in Australia. Will ship after June 1.)

I borrowed it from its original owner (in the USA) - it has to go back to be forwarded to Austrailia.

I read it immediately - a great book that even dog owners could enjoy.

I like the idea of sharing.

Thank you tom and groobs for getting this books to me. (And FizzyPig for registering it to start with! :) )
I'm a cat and Pratchett fan so me thinks I am going to have fun reading this one. :)

Well, I had no problems with the Britishisms, being Australian. We are use to all that. ;) Yep, it was a fun book to read, though I DID cringe a few times over the rather non-PC bits. My fave bit though was Pratchett's comment about Alsation dogs, describing them as wolves with collars on, biding their time. ;P

This book will go onto either a cat and/or Pratchett fan in the near future.

Although I didn't find this book to be laugh-out-loud funny, I chuckled to myself quite a few times and smiled knowingly because so much about cats was absolutely right in this book. I don't think people who've never owned or been around cats before would really enjoy this one.

Purchased through a Barnes & Noble reseller. Looking to complete my Terry Pratchett collection. First introduction to BookCrossing. It's incredible to see where the book has traveled, but I am, selfishly, afraid that this is where the journey ends.
