Wow, I really enjoyed this fast-paced book. Very different from other Nora Roberts books I have read.

This book started out so well. A 'definite 9' this book, I thought. However, somewhere through the book I felt 'filler'; so much chatter between characters, that the story didn't need. (Too 'talky' another reader described it.) New Hope had over 300 people. The logistics of feeding so many people was not satisfactorily answered. Not only food in summer, but the storage of food for winter. They finally got the power back on. Fine, but where did the power come from? How was it generated? We weren't told. An ambulance, which had been sitting idle for a year, was started without difficulty. Surely a flat battery after that time.
Then at the end, in a 'manger' moment a wizard rode in on a horse to acknowledge the birth of the 'one'. (Just one 'wise man this time and on a horse, not three on camels this time round.) After giving his pronouncements and offer of help, he disappears and leaves. What about his horse he rode in on? Was he leaving it?
It was the unnecessary chatter and unanswered things such as I mentioned that, for me, reduced this read to 7.
I am interested enough though to read the next book, and not sorry I read this one. Just acknowledging what was unanswered and what could have been improved.
