Henry Steadman is a successful Florida plastic surgeon on his way to deliver a keynote address at a conference when his world falls apart. Stopped by the police for a minor traffic violation, the situation escalates and he is pulled from his vehicle, handcuffed, and told he is under arrest. Several other police cars arrive and the questioning turns scary, but after it subsides, and Henry is about to move on, the officer is suddenly killed in his car and there is only one suspect: the very person he was about to arrest not ten minutes before. Henry! When a second friend turns up dead, Henry realizes he's being elaborately framed. But in a chilling twist, the stakes grow even darker, and he is unable to go to the police to clear his name.

This is a fast moving entertaining enough read but one in which, I think it's fair to say, credibility is rather well s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d. I've read a few books by this author before so was pretty sure what to expect & he certainly delivered bang on.

The parts of the story told by Steadman himself are quite frenetic but this style does good job in evoking the panic he feels at the situation he finds himself in. He wasn't, however, a character I particularly cared about but the way things rushed along allowed no time to get to know him better.
There were a couple aspects I had a problem with that weren't wholly convincing, such as the ease with which Steadman evaded the law.

But this REALLY niggled at me...Steadman says "I had about sixty bucks left" (no jacket, ipad, cards etc all long gone) This is used as follows;
"I grabbed a hot dog & a coffee" then a "breakfast burrito". Followed by... "I stopped at a men's haberdashery store & picked out a sports jacket straight off the rack along with a white dress shirt" but at the end he still has forty dollars left! I even wasted my time going back to check if he had got hold of anymore cash but no! Okay, it's a bit petty of me I know but I just think it's sloppy writing, anyway time to let that go....

I preferred the parts of the story featuring Holmes as these sections weren't as glib & of a more measured pace. I would have liked more background on both her & the killer though, as a lot was just glossed over.

Overall, a passable & entertaining enough read providing you can overlook/forgive/ignore it's more incredulous elements.The best thing is just accept that things are what they are & buckle up & enjoy the rollercoaster ride it takes you on.... & if you want something truer-to-life choose a different author ;o)
