Crime novella on the 1001 BTRBYD list, set in Switzerland.
This was a short read, which I quite enjoyed. Not entirely convinced by the master criminal, but I did guess whodunit!

What a wonderful surprise to get this in the mail! Thank you very much for thinking of me. I am always up for a 1001 book.
A very enjoyable book. Thank you again for sending it my way.
On its way to crimson-tide who won it in One Book a Month - April 2021. Enjoy!
Thanks very much for the RABCK, mcsar.
A slim 1001 book is a bonus!
Will look forward to reading it, and then pass it on to catsalive as promised.
Thanks also for the postcard and labels. 🙂
When a member of the Bern police force is shot dead on a Swiss country road, the enigmatic Inspector Barlach and his colleague Tschanz are intent on tracking down the killer. But the ailing Inspector doesn't have time to lose. Soon the pair discover that the victim was murdered on his way to a clandestine party at the home of a wealthy power broker - so why was a local policeman socialising with some of Switzerland's most influential men? Who was his shadowy host? And why has Barlach's past returned to haunt him in his final hours?
The Judge and His Hangman is a thrilling tale of lifelong rivalry, and of two men chained together by a wager that would destroy them both.
A short, tightly written, and enjoyable read with a (not so hard to pick) twist.
An existential crime novel musing on good, evil, and the large grey area between.
Now reserved for catsalive.
