Jane Eyre (Bantam Classics)

Kindle Book, so has to be part of permanent collection.
I last read this in high school. Lately, despairing of ever finding a contemporary piece of fiction that's worth a crap, I've decided to hit the classics.
I know this is considered a watershed moment in so-called proto-feminist literature—as well as a precursor to the explosion of the Gothic—but, honestly, it reads like a soap opera. I do appreciate the myriad ways in which Jane asserts herself, and there are some lovely passages, but, overall, it was a bit tedious.
