With so much hype surrounding this book, I was prepared to be disappointed. But I'm some what disappointed about not being disappointed!

It's a proper mystery story. A disgraced journalist is asked to investigate the disappearance of a young girl, a member of a rich family of industrialists who are all somewhat a little strange. Along the way he comes into contact with a slightly psychotic, weird woman, who also happens to be an excellent hacker and a great skill for ferreting out information. Together, they work out what happened so long ago and find out that it has dire consequences for what is still happening.

I really enjoyed reading this - I love books where the reader gets to 'investigate' alongside the characters. The story of Harriet's disappearance is so sad in many ways, and yet I had no clue that the little twist was coming towards the end. I loved the fact that the book essentially had two climatic endings - first of all her mystery is solved and the Vanger family is sort of sorted out - and then there's the second ending dealing with Millennium's revenge. Although the actual ending (as in the last few paragraphs) I didn't like at all.

I liked the style, although the constant shifting viewpoint was a bit annoying at times. But on the whole I really enjoyed reading this and am looking forward to the next one.
