'Got this book from a very dear friend for my birthday. I had never heard of this 1934 novel, but it sure gets a lot of accolades. From the back cover: “Roth has done for the East side Jew what James T. Farrell is doing for the Chicago Irish in the Studs Longan trilogy….when his characters are speaking pure Yiddish, Roth translates it into great beauty…”
What’s also cool, is they’ve reproduced the novel with the original, old font. Only drawback…..very long intro and a long afterward. Sometimes I get restless, wanting to get to the story!
