Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous - Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell. But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape. Four years later, struggling to overcome her demons, Catherine dares to believe she might be safe from harm. Until one phone call changes everything. ...
WOW - just about sums this up :o)
This was a gripping, chilling & at times a very unsettling read. The story is told by Cathy herself & alternates between past & present. This format is perfect, enabling us to see the two very different sides of one woman as she changes from a sociable, vibrant young woman to merely a husk of her former self & the start of her affliction with OCD.
Lee?...well, he really is a monster! A good looking charmer he hides his manipulative & controlling behaviour from others steadily alienating Cathy from her friends. The violence isn't over done but certainly has a shocking impact, difficult to read at times as the sense of unease rises in you. It all seemed so scarily credible.
I think it is a great credit to the author that she could invoke such a jittery feeling in me....Ms Haynes has surely created a truly evil villain.
All-in-all an excellent read, a real pager turner that, no matter how much you may be dreading what's coming next, you won't be able to put down...
....& for once I wasn't let down by the ending - creepy is all I'll say *shudder*

This book looks right up my street so glad to have it! Thanks Plum
Well, this was a chilling book.
Catherine thought she had found a great catch in Lee but he turned out to be a monster. It would be hard for anyone to live that and you get a sense of the walls closing in on you when reading this book.
Excellent writing to the very last page.
