On its way to the winner of the Music Sweepstakes!
Many thanks for this wishlist-book! I am SO sorry it took me so long to make the journal entry (You have a pm about this).
I'm honoured to have won the first Music Sweeps ever - I just wish I had been a more deserving winner!

Usually I'm reading two or three books at a time, but when I started with this one, I had to read on without getting sidetracked into another story...
I liked how the story unfolds through Gwennis eyes, though, even if it is set in the 1950s, I could't help feeling her a bit too naive for her age.
I loved how her vivid imagination has found her a way to cope with her rather dreary life and dramatic family history. She watches the antics of three cups on the top shelf of the kitchen board and sees faces in the peeling paint on the walls (which rather frighten her). But at night she escapes to the skies and hears the beautiful, soothing hum of the earth!
Books, music and expressing onself through the arts are a great help finding ones way through life. Even if her life gets upside down, you don't fear for a moment that Gwenni will ever "catch the family illness"!
Thanks for this wonderful book - it has become one of my favourites so far this year!
