What a wonderful book! The author pays exquisite attention to the words, choosing just the right ones in this tale about a man sentenced to house arrest in a hotel for 30+ years, and his life intertwined with all the others that he comes in contact with - hotel staff, other guests, friends...and a friend even leaving her child with him to raise, while she goes in search of where her husband has been detained, all occurring during the rise of communism in Russia.

This was a pretty good book, with some beautiful moments and descriptions. It is not fast paced, but an interesting look at the changes in Russia based on this one man's experience.
