A murder mystery that could easily have been cynical and depressing yet somehow ends up rather life-affirming. Some great characters of the messed-up-but-likeable variety: the detective himself and the first victim's sister are particular stand-outs.

This book's ok for a fairly mindless read. Not really my cup of tea though - I found the plot too ridiculous and the characters too shallow.
