The new Blackbird Sisters mystery from the bestselling author of A Crazy Little Thing Called Death.

Down-to-earth debutante Nora Blackbird is having a meltdown-and it isn't because of Philadelphia's heat wave, or an overdose at the city's Chocolate Festival. A noted Philly philanthropist has taken a swan dive from an office balcony-and Nora's friend Lexie stands accused of the murder. Then Nora's scheming parents reappear, sending all three Blackbird sisters into a panic. Now Nora must uncover the scandalous hijinks her parents are plotting-before she winds up taking all the heat and strangling her father with his own ascot.

This copy bought from a charity shop especially for Bookcrossing.

---------------------

Plucked out of Flutterbies9’s Cosy Bookbox a bit reluctantly if I am honest as I didn’t know the author, figured it would be aimed at the Millennial generation not their predecessors and wondered if it might be fluff I was not in the mood for.

But on the other hand I was pretty determined to read everything in the box I hadn’t read previously or already had waiting on a to-be-read pile. Plus being last in line on the Cosy Bookbox Ring before the box returned home and having got the go-ahead to read what I wanted I thought I’d take the time to discover a new author.

Received in the Cosy mystery book box when it arrived home with me. Again, an author I have not read so I'll give this one a go too.

Another book down from those returned in the bookbox earlier this month.

This was an author I had never previously read and frankly, although I would read another, I would not go out of my way looking for them either.

I do have to admit that the assortment of characters throughout the whole book is so diverse that it became awkward to follow who was what to whom etc. and the wheels within wheels within wheels became very confusing! On the whole, extremely wacky but great good fun.

No plans for this at present but it may well go out in a bookbox again.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I made these notes at the time of reading [March 2018] & clearly didn’t make a new journal entry for them then so am adding them now, marking this as a humungously late journal entry, sorry for the delay in getting these notes recorded here. Wild thing is that subsequently I’ve read BookCrossing copies of books 1 & 2, of Nancy Martin’s BlackBird Sisters series: How to Murder a Millionaire (1) and Dead Girls Don’t Wear Diamonds (2) and didn’t realise while engrossed in them that I had already read this book, number 7. Pity I didn’t put two and two together at the time of reading books 1 & 2, however, it seems as if I can still seek a re-read of number 7, as you still have it Flutterbies9. I’m expecting I will be able to make so much more out of it now!

Glad I read this as I was delighted to find the three Blackbird sisters, Nora, Libby and Emma and the antics they embroiled themselves in pretty much a hoot! Clearly easier to go along with if one had read more of the series and starting with volume 7 set me off at a disadvantage, in that it took me rather a long time to get into the swing of it. I was though, determined to give it a go and to my surprise found it delightfully amusing and charming too.

Nora, despite not having journalism training, is attempting work as a contributor to the social and arts section of a newspaper. However, having all the right connections to get invites to the finer society gatherings in town and just the exact background to know who is who, what to wear and how to behave in those settings Nora’s a natural fit for the job of a society commentator.

Nora’s yummy ex-boyfriend, Mike Abbruzzo, whom she has not got over keeps popping up and distressingly it looks like her I-don’t-have-an-alcohol-problem sister Emma is going off the rails again and shockingly appears to be living with Nora’s ex Mike! Sister Libby who insists she was knocked over by a Rolls-Royce and ‘must recuperate at the Ritz’, without asking, has left her five children at the Blackbird family ranch for Nora to look after!

A family friend falls off a balcony and Nora determined to extricate her girlhood chum Lexie from any implication of blame is running around pouncing on anyone in the mix for answers to questions she ought not be asking. Luckily Mike seems mysteriously to be on her heels and is able to save her from some tricky situations. Meanwhile, the Blackbird sisters parents, a pair of irrepressibly charming hippies with the manners of petty thieves who had always lived in a highly unorthodox style have turned up from where ever they have been hiding ever since they fizzled out the last of the family fortune. To Nora’s shock an old school chum turns out to have a much closer relationship with the Blackbird family than she knew of, and her sister Emma’s erratic behaviour turns out not to be alcohol related but to have a more natural prompter!

I’ll happily and read more of this series, dear world punt more of these my way! In the meantime, this volume is being popped back into Flutterbies9 Cosy Bookbox for return posting.

Please note this book is currently in the hands of Flutterbies9.

Apologies Flutterbies9 it seems I forgot to make a 'caught' journal entry for this, MURDER MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH* . . . Oh, dear, that probably means its fellows, for I am pretty sure it didn't travel alone, are similarly in the limbo land of the unjournalled with BookCrossing as having arrived in Edinburgh!

Bet you sent this with chocolate and I got distracted . . . ;-)

*YUP, here’s this book similarly unjournalled as having arrived back with me for a re-read! Crumbs, now feeling the weight of a challenge to make my review smashing in some way to justify all the toing and froing this jolly wee amusement has made – gulp!
