Picked this up at a used bookstore here in Milwaukee. Thought it was a history book but come to find that it is a short fiction based on Samurai culture. Looks interesting.

I'm going to do a bookring with this one as it seems I am not going to be able to get to it for some time, with all the rings and rays I am in.

>Here< is a link to a small article relating the true story of the Forty-Seven Ronin on which the book is based.

Journal Entry 6 by Cable from Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom on Monday, October 18, 2004

9 out of 10

This is an absolutely fantastic book about the Samurai warrior, their code of honour and what happens when it all falls apart. Seeing what lengths these Ronin (masterless samurai) would go to in order to avenge their masters death was impressive, especially in the face of such adversity. It's definitely the kind of stuff legends are made from.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the Samurai. Thanks go out to Stensler for releasing this as a bookring.

It just arrived in the mail today, along with some delicious candies, which I promptly sampled, and found delicious. I can't wait to show this to my 16 year old son; he is all things Japanese and samurai crazy! Banzai!
5/10/05 - Well, the 16 year old has turned 17 and still has not read the book, although he likes it and wants to keep it. Sorry, it got a nudge and it smoving on. Sent this to the next in line a few days ago.

It looks like this is a theme in this ring -- holding on to the book longer than intended -- but I think I'm the worst offender yet and I deeply apologize! I began this book a while ago, and thought it promised to be quite good, but then I was distracted by work (I read for a living, so I've got competing books piled on every surface of my apartment) and I completely forgot about it. For months. It just surfaced, to my great mortification. I'm going to mail it on to the next person rather than repeat this unfortunate cycle.
