I love Misty Copeland so I was looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, the book could have used a much better editor because there are grammatical as well as factual errors throughout.

Misty seems very conflicted about her mother and it felt like she ended up apologizing in order to keep the peace. Background: Misty's mother said Misty would have to quit ballet because the dance studio was too far away (despite the fact that Misty's older sister and her boyfriend were the ones picking up Misty and driving her home). Misty's dance teacher didn't want Misty to have to give up dancing, so she offered to let Misty live with her family. Misty's mother agreed. Instead of having to sleep on a motel floor with her five other siblings and share whatever junk food they could find, Misty got to sleep in an actual bed and eat healthy food while living with her dance teacher. When her mom got jealous, she demanded that Misty move back home. Not wanting to upset her family, Misty acquiesced. Even that wasn't enough to satisfy her mother who then hired Gloria Allred and threatened to file restraining orders against the dance teacher and her family. Just thinking about how selfishly her other acted out of insecurity and jealousy makes me shake my head. Poor Misty was only a teenager who loved her mother so she caved in and did as her mother wanted and she tries to justify her mother's actions in the book which makes me so sad for her. Just because someone pushes you out of her vagina doesn't mean that she is making the best decisions for you.
