Chosen from Bowden SA, the Gibson St. Book Exchange, which is in the form of a small unsupervised cabinet. Passers-by simply open it & select what they want and/or place books inside it at any time of day or night. Interesting concept. The cabinet is a stones-throw from Plant4, a thriving & innovative wine, food & craft centre constructed inside a converted factory warehouse in Bowden, an older, inner-city suburb of Adelaide undergoing a renaissance. THE BOOK itself, by Stan Grant, is part-memoir, part-history, part-social commentary on what it means to be "part-aboriginal". Sad, insightful & revealing, by one of Australia's best-known media identities.
