Detective Inspector Nick Holroyd's sister, Ellen, is missing. Has she been drawn into the bizarre cult called The Children of Light, which has moved to Moulton Manor? The town is plagued by robberies, too, and a hooded man, known as the Wessex Rapist, is attacking women. When the body of a young woman is found, the evidence points toward her being his most recent victim.
