I picked this book up @ a book sale @ the Free (Community) Library of Potomac, Maryland. I am a cat enthusiast, lover and animal advocate. Being the caregiver of four cats, Cleo, aka "Mommy Cat" a named she absolutely loved, gave me three babies...her daughter, Paige, my twin brother named her "The Runway Model", her son Miles given the name "Miles of Smiles" by my brother and her last son, Spice of which I named him "My Warrior Cat". All four of them came to me unexpectedly. Let me explain. I had lost my two previous cats, Oreo and Champagne through death, within two months of each other. I knew one day this would happen. I foretold that when they were gone I was going to eventually get a female Gray Tiger Tabby, name her Cleo, wait for her to become pregnant and keep all of them, including the father if he choose to stay around. Well, with that being said, Cleo came into my life through a friend. Initially, I was not interested in taking on the responsibility of another cat as I was still grieving for my Oreo and Champagne. However, my friend encouraged me to travel the 60 miles to see her and I relented. We spent a week with each other trying to decide if we were compatible...yes I like you, ah, no I'm not sure. Cleo, in her own way questioning me as I was her. During her stay with me it became necessary that I would to travel south for a week. I took her back to my friend. When I returned, he suggested I take her to the Vet. This alarmed me and I asked if she was sick. He responded by telling me she was eating quite a bit and perhaps she was pregnant. Come to find out Cleo was pregnant, @ the age of approximately 5 months, according to the Vet, for two definitely, possibly three. Well, my future came to me a little earlier than I had planned for, and here I was the proud "parent" of four. The babies being born on Friday the 13th of November. Miles passed @ age 10, Paige passed @ age 13, Mommy Cat passed @ age 15 and Spice passed just one month shy of his 19th birthday. I can't begin to tell of the joy I felt. They were each a gift of which I loved and cared for each of them deeply.
The picture of this beautiful animal, Homer, is what attracted me to the book, not necessarily the title. That came in second. As of this posting, I am nearly finished the book (p. 262). I am hoping the ending is in Homer's favor, in that I pray he is still alive @ this book's last chapter. Today is April 29, 2018. Thank you for telling your story. What a beautiful story it is coupled with what a great "Mom" you are. Having known Homer through this books' author is a gift I will always treasure.
Presently, I am still in possession of this book.
