The Murder of Roger Ackroyd: A Hercule Poirot Mystery

I have never been interested in mysteries, but I figured if I was going to try one, it should be from one of the best: Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle. Indeed, the back cover of this book says the following: “Agatha Christie is the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare. her books have sold more than a billion copies in English and another billion in a hundred foreign languages.” Wow.
This certainly was an expertly crafted, cleverly written story. It was an excellent example of the genre. But for me, it reinforced the idea that mysteries really are not my thing. Keeping all those tiny details straight in my head becomes tedious after a while, and I start to no longer care who committed the crime, how, or why. Still, I give this a nine because I could not find much fault with it- the fault is my own!
