A 1996 book of short stories by 30-something Native-Canadian writer Eden Robinson (left). Traplines was awarded the 1997 Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize by the Royal Society of Authors (an award recognizing significant contributions in fiction or non-fiction by citizens of the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland), and was a New York Times Editor's Choice and Notable Book of the Year.

Traplines is a collection of four short stories dealing with issues of addiction, crime, family violence and relations between First Nations communities (and individuals) and their white neighbours. The last story in this collection, Queen of the North, introduces the characters of Jimmy and Karaoke, who feature prominently in Robinson's 2000 novel Monkey Beach (as does the fishing boat after which Queen of the North is named). Similarly, the characters of Adelaine and Uncle Josh appear to be earlier versions of LisaMarie and Uncle Mick from Monkey Beach.

Eden Robinson is a member of the Haisla First Nation from northwestern British Columbia. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia.
