Journal Entry 1 by goatgrrl from New Westminster, British Columbia Canada on Monday, March 29, 2004
It gave me great pleasure to find this book for $1.99 at Value Village today, then an hour later to see it at MonsterBookStore for $21.00 (CDN). If you've found your way to my Bookshelf because you're looking for this book, and it still says "AVL", please feel free to PM me and ask for it. I have two copies, and would love to pass this one on. The Secret Life of Bees was longlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2002.

Journal Entry 4 by KunsangJones from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Canada on Friday, July 02, 2004
Set in South Carolina in 1964, the protagonist is a white 14 year old raised by a hurt / angry father and, since her mother's death, by a black woman. This is an excellent journey of inappropriate guilt being shed as the personal is political and is spiritual - the conections and tensions are key and well presented. Excellent and it is with some reluctance that I will let this go to benefit someone else.

I always get sucked in by books that take place in the south! This was a beautifully written book that totally captured me-finished reading it in a day. I love the connection between the bees and Lily and her mother-a great way to tie the whole story together. It is definitely a worthwhile read, and I will pass this along soon. Thanks for sharing KunsangJones!

I liked this book, though am ready for a book not about southern women :). I too read this quickly - took me two days. Loved the flow, loved the themes and great characters. In some sections, I wished the book had scratch and sniff stickers.
