I got this hardcover (missing its dust jacket) from an online seller. It's a look at the way people react to animals - specifically, to bears, butterflies, and birds, each of which gets its own section. The author contrasts the views of wildlife as a resource for our use and a responsibility for us to care for, with shades of anthropomorphizing as it affects public policy. Some of the sections are hard to read, dealing with ongoing threats of extinction, with pollution, climate-change, and habitat-destruction taking its toll; other bits are more positive, showing that people can raise awareness in ways that may actually help...
