I've enjoyed Gauld's cartoons for some time now - I follow his web site - and when I saw the announcement for this hardcover collection I had to order it. I love his literary humor, and while it's hard to choose favorites I'll mention a few:
"Our Dear Departed Books," illustrating the ways in which books may "die", from "dropped in the bath" to "lent to an unreliable friend" to "might be in one of those boxes in the basement".
"An X-ray of My Suitcase," showing a suitcase packed solid with books - "holiday reading, " "more holiday reading," "backup holiday reading," etc. Looks *exactly* like my suitcase when I travel. (Well, except that some of my sections are "books to be released in destination locations".)
A really delightful one: "excerpt from the 'Wolf Hall Fun Book' by Hilary Mantel", including a maze where you can try to lead King Henry to a tryst with Anne Boleyn while avoiding Queen Catherine, and a "spot the difference" panel with images of Thomas Cromwell.
And "The Martian Invasion of 1894 Souvenir Limited Edition Porcelain Plates", showing scenes from War of the Worlds in commemorative-plate format - which I suspect would actually happen if there'd really been a Martian invasion, though perhaps "The people of Surrey harvested for their blood" would not have made the cut. And where's the one for the Thunder Child???

Picked this up at the February Saturday Bookcrossing meetup. Thanks for passing it along. Both my husband and I read it, and it's a lot of fun. Quick read, though, since it's all comics. Setting aside to release somewhere.
