I really enjoyed MacBride's first few Logan McRae books, but kind of drifted away as the books became a bit bloated and characterisations a bit too over the top.

So, does a new stand alone (with potential for a series, maybe?) mean a new start and the dropping of bad habits? Well, no, not really. The characters are a bit more restrained, but this is a hefty book and takes a bit too long to get to the point. Which is a shame, as the plot is interesting and satisfyingly convoluted. It's just there's too much extraneous dialogue and description to maintain the tension and pace.

I really don't like giving a lukewarm review for an author I admire, and find amusing on Twitter and when he speaks at events. But I'm still waiting for a return to form.

Left at a phone box library we came across whilst on holiday.

Found Marton-com-Grafton telephone box book exchange on a long bike ride home from work picking up some geocaches. I failed to find a cache near here so took a book instead. It's a chunky one so may be a while before I read it but I'll pass it on as soon as I do.

Well, I got through this book much faster than I was expecting but was a bit disappointed towards the end. I have left it in Greygarth Monument (where I left another book about 6 years ago) half way round a bike ride from Ripon. I was intending to go further but it started drizzling.
