Book burble: THE MARQUIS’S MYSTERY LADY
If there is anything Tristan Adam Hargrove, fourth Marquis of Moreland, has learned to avoid, it’s scandal. For the dark and dashing lord is an honourable gentleman who would never seduce a woman for his own gain.
When a raven-haired beauty arrives as his new neighbour, he knows better that to succumb to the desire he feels. He knows little about her, only that she is high born, a protegee of the Crown and completely unsuitable for indulging his male instincts. If only he had never glimpsed the vulnerable beauty late one fateful night. If only it were not already too late to save her and himself from their untamed passion!

With a rather enticing beginning, some intriguing character development, and a delightfully robust meeting of souls, this by the end has rather fizzled, like a spent firework, to a gentle rest. It’s a fun journey though and by the conclusion we do have our two lovers in much better shape and in control of their destiny something which at the start was impossible to imagine. So, while yes this is a bit of a spoiler of a review, it’s hardly a heart-stopping shock to find the lovers gain happiness at the end of this tale, which is after all a romance!
Surprisingly we find that Moreland secretly wrote How to Avoid a Scandal, authored by a Gentleman, an infamous red book that has swept like wildfire through the better part of London society, and extracts from this head all the chapters to amusing effect.
Popping this amusement into the post today for another bookcrosser who is also a Regency novel reading, enthusiast – I know you said you don’t have much time for reading at present given so many changes in your life but this I hope will prove an easy to digest distraction – enjoy!
