I picked this out of my little free book box because I'd read and enjoyed some of the SF masterworks series before. And I've just spent the afternoon successfully engrossed in it. It's fascinating to think how someone who only periodically touches earth over periods of tens or hundreds of years would watch the world change. Not sure I quite got the last leap, it felt like Joe was just looking for an ending to the war, but nevertheless i very much enjoyed this one.
