One of my favourite 'pick me up' books. Very funny. For those 'alternative armchair travellers'. A damm good light hearted read. Really recommended to those with a dry sense of humour. Do not read this on a train!!

This is an international bookring. Please pass on as quickly as you can so that others can enjoy it too. Many thaaaaks.

Oh, and if anyone likes this book, I recommend Join Me by Danny Wallace, another cracking good read, and laugh-out-loud.

Put a little Fridge magnet in the parcel for fun! Let me know what kind of fridgemagnet it is.

Sorry if I have had to juggle people around.

Enjoy Folks!

Journal Entry 3 by tadleybookfairy from Tadley, Hampshire United Kingdom on Friday, August 20, 2004
Arrived while I was picking plums, with black London cab fridge magnet. Good job it didn't end up in Reigate! :-) Have started reading it already - looking forward to it, as I enjoy listening to Tony Hawks whenever he's on Just a Minute on Radio 4.

Journal Entry 4 by tadleybookfairy from Tadley, Hampshire United Kingdom on Thursday, September 2, 2004
Sent to weeblet by surface mail (fingers crossed) with another fridge magnet, this time from the Kennet and Avon Canal shop at Aldermaston Wharf (keeping the transport theme). A fun read, though Tony Hawks looks nothing like how I imagined!

Journal Entry 5 by weeblet from Jacksonville, Florida USA on Monday, October 4, 2004
arrived safely (and quickly for surface!!). bubble wrapped magnet exquisite. thank you!!!

Journal Entry 12 by LilB from Auckland, Auckland Province New Zealand on Saturday, March 12, 2005
The title 'Round Ireland with a Fridge ' and the cover pic of the author thumbs out at the side of the road says it all really.Quite mad and pointless in an endearing way.In the same silly bloke genre as Danny Wallace's 'Join Me' though I did find that book more laugh-out-loud funny.
I've put a swedish magnet inside the parcel and will send to brujula as soon as I have their details.

Journal Entry 13 by Brujula from Valenciennes, Nord-Pas-de-Calais France on Tuesday, May 17, 2005

Thak you LilB!

Journal Entry 14 by Brujula from Valenciennes, Nord-Pas-de-Calais France on Sunday, June 5, 2005
I've really enjoyed travelling around Ireland with Tony and his fridge!
And I'd like to travel round Ireland so much, now!

I'll be mailing this book to quadrat as soon as I have his/her adress!

Thank you jacinta2000 for sharing!

Journal Entry 15 by Brujula from Valenciennes, Nord-Pas-de-Calais France on Thursday, June 9, 2005
Mailed yesterday to quadrat.

Journal Entry 16 by rem_SEP-393294 on Friday, July 8, 2005
took ages to get this through the post - don't know why as the address was all fully correct. started reading already, and got to the 3rd chapter in my lunch hour - very readable! will try and finish over the weekend. hoserlauren is on the list twice? i'll get in touch with her and post this on after i finish and review! THANKS brujula/jacinta2000
ps the type of fridge magnet in the parcel was a red automobile (a rubber one)!

REVIEW: well, this was a very enjoyable book! a worthwhile read, and with quite profound (?) implications for freedom in life and an illustration of how kind, curious and/or polite strangers can be! a very appropriate book to BC because of the travelling fridge and people taking time out to sign the fridge or be sociable. tony hawks' sense of humour is interesting, at times he made me laugh outloud, other times i smiled to myself and sometimes before i'd even read the lead-up to the joke/pun i knew what he was going to say and thought yeah wotever.. ! i felt sometimes he was making fun of the irish and single people - wonder what others think of this... and i must warn u that as the book nears the end, the fridge becomes less and less of a novelty... ! i did struggle with the last chapter!

btw i put a magnet in to hoserlauren - a windmill with fuerteventura stamped on it! whilst this may seem unrelated to the book - tony kept saying how out of place his fridge was in various places. fuerteventura is a little island that is overdeveloped with fish & chip shops etc in some places and there's volcanic remains on most of the land - exactly the sort of place a windmill would be totally out of place!

posted today to hoserlauren!

Journal Entry 17 by HoserLauren from Burlington, Ontario Canada on Thursday, July 28, 2005
I received this in the mail today, along with a cute little windmill fridge magnet. Thanks for sending this along!
I'm about to start exams, so unfortunatey I won't be able to read this until after exams. But I will get around to it ASAP.

Thanks again!

Journal Entry 18 by HoserLauren from Burlington, Ontario Canada on Monday, August 15, 2005
I rarely laugh while reading books, so if that is a measure of how funny a book is, this was quite funny! Some of the things that both Tony and his Irish friends had to say were hilarious.
I travelled around Ireland about 2 years ago and had visited some of them places that Tony visited. My favourite place of Ireland (Kylemore Abbey, see the picture on my bookshelf) was where Tony got his fridge blessed - another laugh out loud moment!

I've been on the search for a fridge magnet to send out to the next person and so far no luck. :( I'm waiting for jebbie's address, and hopefully by the time she sends it to me I'll have a magnet.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Journal Entry 19 by HoserLauren from Burlington, Ontario Canada on Wednesday, August 17, 2005
Sent this book out today.

I had a bit of trouble finding a suitable magnet for jebbie74 since we are from the same area, but I managed to find a cute one with a picture of north america, and a cartoon guy standing on Canada saying "It's better on top". Hope she enjoys it! :)

Journal Entry 20 by Jebbie74 from Oshawa, Ontario Canada on Monday, August 22, 2005
I have to say, I looooove the magnet! :) It will definately be taking pride of place on my fridge :)

Can't wait to dig into this one as I have heard nothing but good things.

Journal Entry 21 by Jebbie74 from Oshawa, Ontario Canada on Friday, August 26, 2005
I finished thsi book a few days ago...but forgot to journal it.

I loved every minute of it! When it was over, I wanted more. I felt as if I had met Tony personally and went with him on all his adventures! I, myself, am a big joker and would have loved to have pulled this one off!

PMing dhansen1019 and going out to find a fridgie :)

Journal Entry 22 by Jebbie74 from Oshawa, Ontario Canada on Friday, September 9, 2005
Mailed off to kirst040 as the others requested I pass them by.

Added a wonderful furry fridgie...and hoping Kirst loved it as much as I did :)

Journal Entry 23 by kirst040 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, December 2, 2005
Arrived today thank you.
Looking forward to reading this and I love the fridge magnet, it's fab.

Journal Entry 24 by kirst040 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Wednesday, December 14, 2005
I loved this, it reminded me of my travels through Ireland (sans fridge) and it was certainly laugh out loud funny. I should have heeded jacinta2000's advice not to read it on the train!

I enjoyed watching Tony Hawks on the BBC series 'Grumpy Old Men' and I really like his sense of humour. Just between you & me I think I may have developed a little crush on him....*blush* I'll be keeping an eye out for his other books.

I've PM'd kislany for her address and will shop for an appropriate fridge magnet in the meantime. Thanks for starting this ring jacinta2000 & thanks again for the fridge magnet jebbie74.

Journal Entry 25 by kirst040 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, December 20, 2005
Just an update, kislany & winkiemoon have both asked to be skipped.
This will be on its way to piiku tomorrow. Sending economy air to Finland with fridge magnet in tow, should take between 2 - 4 weeks, maybe a little longer due to the holidays.

Journal Entry 26 by kirst040 from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Tuesday, January 3, 2006
Ok I need to 'fess up here. I realised over the Christmas break that I had forgotten to put the fridge magnet in with the book when I mailed it to piiku.
Sorry about that, I feel terrible. I'm going to send it separately today, it's a much smaller package so it shouldn't arrive too long after the book.

Happy New Year everyone.

Journal Entry 27 by wingPiikuwing from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Friday, January 13, 2006
I think I'm in trouble, this is the third bookring I've got this week. I try to finish it by the end of January. Thanks a lot for sending it all the way from Australia, kirst040, you shouldn't have worried about the fridge magnet =)

Journal Entry 28 by wingPiikuwing from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Sunday, January 22, 2006
Quite a lot of beer drinking in this book. Amazing how friendly and helpful the people were in Ireland, I bet most of them were bookcrossers as well =)

This was a quicker read than I expected; I haven't even found a fridge magnet for molyneux yet! I will try to find one, and mail this book tomorrow.

Journal Entry 29 by wingPiikuwing from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Monday, January 23, 2006
Got the fridge magnet today, it's one with a picture of Sydney Opera House. Thank you so much, kirst040!

Journal Entry 30 by Molyneux from Oxford, Oxfordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 31, 2006
Received yesterday - thanks Piku! I love the angels too! :)

This book has certainly travelled a long way already - and looking at the journal entries I noticed LilB has read this book! Hi LilB - it was good to meet you when you visited London just after New Year! :)

Journal Entry 31 by wingrahar109wing from Ash Vale, Surrey United Kingdom on Saturday, March 18, 2006
Passed to me at the Cherry Tree this afternoon. I don't remember signing up for this, but I've wanted to read it for a while.

Journal Entry 32 by wingrahar109wing from Ash Vale, Surrey United Kingdom on Monday, May 15, 2006
Enjoyed this book very much, a funny and quick read. Now I want to visit Ireland, though without a fridge. Unless I go with my daughter; given her packing habits, she'd probably think it quite reasonable to take a few kitchen appliances.

PMing kiki66 for his/her address, and off to find a fridge magnet to send.

Journal Entry 33 by wingrahar109wing from Ash Vale, Surrey United Kingdom on Saturday, May 20, 2006
Posted to Kiki66 this morning.

The fridge magnet is a London one, with almost every tourist attraction you can think of stuffed onto one magnet. Wonderfully tacky (sorry Ulrike!)

Journal Entry 34 by wingkiki66wing from Gauting, Bayern Germany on Wednesday, May 24, 2006
Yeah! the book arrived today.. I think this was one of the first rings I signed up for :-)
Glad it finally made it to my place...

And thanks for the great fridge magnet! I just love it :-))

Will read as soon as possible (holidays just around the corner...)

Edit: forgot to say thanks for the chocolate as well!!

Journal Entry 35 by wingkiki66wing from Gauting, Bayern Germany on Tuesday, June 20, 2006
This book went to Dresden today (eatsletters wanted to be skipped!)

I quite liked that one.. much better than the Bill Bryson book 'Notes of a Small Island'...
It was entertaining and fun to read... I only have been to Lough Derg so far (and really enoyed that!) but I do know The Burren - which he wasn't 'allowed' to see thanks to Swan Rescue :-)

Put a little fridge magnet into the parcel with the 'Oktoberfest' on it.. guess that's what Munich is famous for... :-)

Journal Entry 36 by RikkiDD from Dresden, Sachsen Germany on Sunday, June 25, 2006
The book found its way into my letterbox to the right moment. In about 5 weeks time I'll fly to Ireland for my holidays. So I started reading the very moment I got it.

Journal Entry 37 by RikkiDD from Dresden, Sachsen Germany on Thursday, June 29, 2006
This is really a great story. As I mentioned I will go to Ireland soon myself (but without a fridge) and in this book a found some interessting remarks about places I now consider visiting.

This book was a good, quick read. It definitely made me laugh out loud in some places. Reading about the people he met in his travels and the adventures of the fridge was a good time. Thanks for sharing. This book is on its way to HallieK, as a few members wished to be skipped.

Journal Entry 41 by HallieK from Austin, Texas USA on Thursday, September 28, 2006
Got this in the mail and cannot wait to read it! Got a cool PA magnet, too! Thanks :)

I've had this for ages and I'm sorry. We moved right after I started it and I just didn't have time to finish it. I'm nearly through now, though, and will be mailing it out ASAP.
