One of my favourite 'pick me up' books. Very funny. For those 'alternative armchair travellers'. A damm good light hearted read. Really recommended to those with a dry sense of humour. Do not read this on a train!!

Sent to weeblet by surface mail (fingers crossed) with another fridge magnet, this time from the Kennet and Avon Canal shop at Aldermaston Wharf (keeping the transport theme). A fun read, though Tony Hawks looks nothing like how I imagined!

The postie just handed this to me.it looks fun- I'll try and read it this week before I fly off to new zealand.
The title 'Round Ireland with a Fridge ' and the cover pic of the author thumbs out at the side of the road says it all really.Quite mad and pointless in an endearing way.In the same silly bloke genre as Danny Wallace's 'Join Me' though I did find that book more laugh-out-loud funny.

took ages to get this through the post - don't know why as the address was all fully correct. started reading already, and got to the 3rd chapter in my lunch hour - very readable! will try and finish over the weekend. hoserlauren is on the list twice? i'll get in touch with her and post this on after i finish and review! REVIEW: well, this was a very enjoyable book! a worthwhile read, and with quite profound (?) implications for freedom in life and an illustration of how kind, curious and/or polite strangers can be! a very appropriate book to BC because of the travelling fridge and people taking time out to sign the fridge or be sociable. tony hawks' sense of humour is interesting, at times he made me laugh outloud, other times i smiled to myself and sometimes before i'd even read the lead-up to the joke/pun i knew what he was going to say and thought yeah wotever.. ! i felt sometimes he was making fun of the irish and single people - wonder what others think of this... and i must warn u that as the book nears the end, the fridge becomes less and less of a novelty... ! i did struggle with the last chapter!
btw i put a magnet in to hoserlauren - a windmill with fuerteventura stamped on it! whilst this may seem unrelated to the book - tony kept saying how out of place his fridge was in various places. fuerteventura is a little island that is overdeveloped with fish & chip shops etc in some places and there's volcanic remains on most of the land - exactly the sort of place a windmill would be totally out of place!

I rarely laugh while reading books, so if that is a measure of how funny a book is, this was quite funny! Some of the things that both Tony and his Irish friends had to say were hilarious.
I travelled around Ireland about 2 years ago and had visited some of them places that Tony visited. My favourite place of Ireland (Kylemore Abbey, see the picture on my bookshelf) was where Tony got his fridge blessed - another laugh out loud moment!

I had a bit of trouble finding a suitable magnet for jebbie74 since we are from the same area, but I managed to find a cute one with a picture of north america, and a cartoon guy standing on Canada saying "It's better on top". Hope she enjoys it! :)

I finished thsi book a few days ago...but forgot to journal it.
I loved every minute of it! When it was over, I wanted more. I felt as if I had met Tony personally and went with him on all his adventures! I, myself, am a big joker and would have loved to have pulled this one off!

I loved this, it reminded me of my travels through Ireland (sans fridge) and it was certainly laugh out loud funny. I should have heeded jacinta2000's advice not to read it on the train!
I enjoyed watching Tony Hawks on the BBC series 'Grumpy Old Men' and I really like his sense of humour. Just between you & me I think I may have developed a little crush on him....*blush* I'll be keeping an eye out for his other books.

Just an update, kislany & winkiemoon have both asked to be skipped.

Ok I need to 'fess up here. I realised over the Christmas break that I had forgotten to put the fridge magnet in with the book when I mailed it to piiku.

Quite a lot of beer drinking in this book. Amazing how friendly and helpful the people were in Ireland, I bet most of them were bookcrossers as well =)

Passed to me at the Cherry Tree this afternoon. I don't remember signing up for this, but I've wanted to read it for a while.
Enjoyed this book very much, a funny and quick read. Now I want to visit Ireland, though without a fridge. Unless I go with my daughter; given her packing habits, she'd probably think it quite reasonable to take a few kitchen appliances.

This book went to Dresden today (eatsletters wanted to be skipped!)I quite liked that one.. much better than the Bill Bryson book 'Notes of a Small Island'...
It was entertaining and fun to read... I only have been to Lough Derg so far (and really enoyed that!) but I do know The Burren - which he wasn't 'allowed' to see thanks to Swan Rescue :-)

The book found its way into my letterbox to the right moment. In about 5 weeks time I'll fly to Ireland for my holidays. So I started reading the very moment I got it.
This is really a great story. As I mentioned I will go to Ireland soon myself (but without a fridge) and in this book a found some interessting remarks about places I now consider visiting.
