This book arrived in the mail while I was out-of-town last week. It was sent to me as part of the "Browse My Bookshelf" book relay. Thanks, morpha. I look forward to reading it.
Good story ... I'm glad I read this book. I was at times horrified and at times amused. The style of writing in letters to God and later Celie's and Nettie's letters to each other made for enjoyable reading.
Today I mailed this book to Flakes in Illinois. Enjoy!
Thanks so much for the RABCK raralovestoread! :)
This book drew me in immediately and I finished it within a day. Excellent story!
I'll be sending this one off to talon2claw tomorrow.

I got this book today. I remember the movie, so it will be interesting to see how the book compares.
Great book! It took me a few pages to really get into the style in which it was written, but once I did I read it rather quickly. This will be off in the mail to another bookcrosser this weekend!

Received in the mail today as part of a book relay from talon2claw.
I just received this yesterday and I didn't even mean to puck it up and read it let alone finish but I did.
I enjoyed it thoroughly. Celie just kind of grows on you. Sofia and Shug does too.
I wish I understood why Alice Walker when referring to Albert in the book called him Mr.______.
Maybe someone can explain that to me. I hate to be dense about things.

I read this book when it first came out, way back when, and I'm looking forward to reading it again now.

This story, more than anything else, is about the power of strong female relationships. Celie is a poor, uneducated black woman who has survived both an abusive father and spouse. She has little sense of self-worth and no one to turn to until she meets Shug Avery.
I love the flow of the colloquial speech that the author uses for this rural black community in early 20th century Georgia. It is natural to my Southern ear and makes Celie very real to me.
