Nimona

I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble. It's based on the author's webcomic about an eager young shapeshifter who goes to work for a supervillain. I'm a big fan of the Evil Overlord List, and was amused at the many nods to it here, usually in the form of Nimona trying to use the list to get something done and Lord Blackheart (yeah, good villain name, right?) sticking to the "Noble Villain with Honored Adversary" tropes even when it means he's going to lose (again).
It becomes clear that Blackheart and said adversary - a handsome blond knight named Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin (!) - have a history, and seem to have strong feelings for each other even though they're convinced the other is completely wrong. Nimona rolls her eyes at all this - she'd be a strong proponent of "Why don't you just shoot him" - but eventually figures a few things out about the way Blackheart does business.
Nimona herself has secrets, hinted at at first and eventually revealed in all their horror. Will she and Blackheart remain a team? Will they ever triumph over Goldenloin - or will it turn out that the "good guys" have some dark secrets too?
A lot of fun, and with a surprisingly touching character-arc as the story progresses. Very enjoyable!
[There's a TV Tropes page on the series, with some entertaining tidbits. Edited to add: there's an audiobook now; see the Audible listing here!]

Taken from the box. I've read bits and pieces of the webcomic, so I'm looking forward to this!
I thoroughly enjoyed this comic! I like Stevenson's art and this setting really showed off her talents at using simple lines and color to convey impressive emotion and detail. Her character design shone, and she did nice job of always keeping a shape-shifting character instantly recognizable in each scene, even when she doesn't have a set appearance.
The plot is simple, but effective, and focused on character growth and relationships. Our main characters may be supervillains, but they are also surprisingly good people struggling to help each other with some painful emotional scars. It was, dare I say, cute!

Sent to the winner of the Manga/Graphic Novel Sweepstakes. Sorry it took me so long to get in the mail!
Got it today. And it's the third one to arrive so, I wouldn't say it's late. There wouldn't be any worries, anyway.
Thank you so much for sharing.

I truly enjoyed this one. A book about friendship, loyalty and courage. A book about our monsters. But a funny one, too. I loved the character Nimona.
One negative point: I had some trouble with some tinny letters along the book.
Great experience! Thank you so much for sharing.
The book is ready to go to Andrasthe, after the"European wishlist tag game".
