A love story set in Paris during the May 1968 student riots, and based on real events
Angie fell in love with Karl on a New York University campus in 1967. She was the treasured daughter of an American millionaire, and he, unknown to her, was a handsome East German secret agent, infiltrated into the students’ union. They had nothing in common, except their opposition to the Vietnam War.
Their turbulent love affair starts badly, but later they accidentally meet again in Paris at the Sorbonne, where they both become involved in the student riots of May 1968.
Angie’s renewed relationship with Karl causes the horrific death of her father, but Karl is caught in his own trap, when he has to choose between his real love for her, and his duty to the Fatherland.
Official history books maintain that the May 1968 student riots in Paris started as normal demonstrations, which degenerated and led to a general strike and the near shut-down of the French economy, but is this really true, or were the student leaders guided by foreign powers, as hinted at by Prime Minister Pompidou..? The Spy She Loved is the result of extensive research by author John Hefford. Based on real events, the story throws a new light on the revolutionary period of 1967 to 1968.
