An OK tale mainly covering a hot but well organized and catered for group of medics in Malaya at the British Military Hospital. A lot of discussions after the death of a philandering Plantation owner & at the end it was down to a barely mentioned couple.

Found at QSR. How can I pass up a mystery?
As he arrives in Malaya, newly-qualified pathologist Tom Howden still can't comprehend why he decided to sign on for three years in Her Majesty's Far East Land Forces, when he could have gotten away with two as a National Serviceman. Was the promise of better pay really worth another twelve months in this saturated sweat-box?

The author is a pathologist and this story seems to be set where he worked. I found the book had too much description, especially army "stuff", and not enough narration. If you read it for description, there is a lot of interesting paragraphs. I wanted more story so was pretty bored. I have been collecting his Crowner John series as I love historic mysteries. I hope they are better than this book.
