Caved in this month and bought 2 books from Scope Charity Shop.
Ditzen's (Fallada's real name) story is all the more interesting because he based it on a real couple who dropped postcards during WWII. Sadly he didn't get to see this work published and its remarkable that he wrote such a tome at all, considering his life story which is also included in the book.
