Heart of a Jaguar
3 journalers for this copy...
I found this handsome hardcover at a local Savers thrift shop. Set roughly in 1200 A. D., it deals with the beliefs of the Mayan people, and focuses on one teenaged boy whose fate might save his people - but at what cost to him? Interesting look at this civilization and its often-grisly practices - and the author has quite a challenge in making some of the main character's choices believable and even sypathetic to a modern-day reader. Very colorful and atmospheric!
I'm adding this to the Indigenous Peoples bookbox. Hope someone enjoys it!
Looks like an interesting read, so plucking from the bookbox, most likely to travel to the Rez this summer.
Well, it didn’t make it down to the Rez, last year there was no going, and who knows about this summer... it will however go into the current round of Native American/First Nations/Indigenous Peoples bookbox .
This was one of those books I put off journaling because I actually wanted to write a lot about it… But I didn’t get back to it until it was far too late… I do want to comment that though of course the bloodier aspects of Mayan culture are long gone, I was struck by how much does live on today in Mexico’s indigenous descendants of the Maya.

Sending off in the Native American/First Nations/Indigenous Peoples bookbox for another to enjoy.
