This is the story of writer and Nobel Prize for Literature Ernest Hemingway. As a writer, I really like his short stories. He pushed the limits of fiction, and wrote in a way that was impossible to confuse with anybody else's. However, as a person, he was despicable. He took all his four consecutive wives for granted, was loyal or faithful to none of them. Each one of them was completely different, which made me think that he never really knew what he truly wanted.

The novel begins with Hadley, described as a plain woman. They are travelling around Paris, and Fife, an American heiress who worked as a Vogue editor, is following them. Fife is Hadley's friend, but also she will become Ernest's lover. In her desperation, Hadley will give Ernest an ultimatum. Fife will go crazy waiting for him.

I specially liked Martha Gellhorn, a journalist and writer on her own right. She was badly-spoken, a drankyard, and violent, exactly like Ernest.

I really liked this novel, even when I knew the ending. It's well-written, and I loved all the characters. Also, it shows how Ernest Hemingway's personality became self-destructive, more violent and chaotic, watered up with rivers of alcohol.
